Turquoise Thompson, who will attend Long Beach Poly next season,
gave Golden State track and field fans an idea of what's to come after
running a sensational 53.93 to win the Youth Girls Division
400-meter dash final at the Junior Olympics on Sunday morning in Indianapolis!
Turqoise raced 53.55 to win the USATF Association Meet June 12th at Carson
for her personal best


Turqoise also has the "sock" thing kind of going!!

Scott Roth of Granite Bay HS each broke the JO's Boys Intermediate Division
Pole Vault record with clearances at 17-1.50. Jordan cleared on 1st try to win!
At right, Salesian HS of Richmond (Sac Joaquin Section) speedburner
Jahvid Best found a new gear and blazed to a meet-leading 21.41 during
opening-round action of the Intermediate Boys 200m Dash. Jahvid's previous
lifetime bests were 22.17 legal and 21.90 windy. Nice improvement!
California has 12 HS athletes ranked among the top 45 in the nation in the 200m
this year, easily the most of any state and almost twice as many as Texas!

Diamond Ranch HS and SoCal Cheetahs club star Terry Prentice rode a fine 23-00.50
effort to gain 818 big points in the long jump on Day 1, then scored big in the high hurdles
(14.83 for 870 more points) to start Day 2. Terry scored a lifetime-best 6303 points to place
second to Tennessee frosh phenom Benjamin Davies, whose 6645 ranks #3 in U.S. in 2005!

Muir High and Pasadena Running Roses standout Kiani Profit enjoyed two big
scoring bursts in Day 1 of the Intermediate Girls Heptathlon, netting 822 points
from a 15.15 clocking in the 100-meter high hurdles and an additional 836 points
from her 25.56 effort in the 200-meter dash. Kiani ended up placing fourth in
the two-day competition with 4245 points, with Gabrielle Gioia winning with 4483.
Sarah Brown of Tri-City Christian HS in the San Diego area, was second with 4424!

California was well represented in the multi-events on Day One, with Diamond Ranch HS/
SoCal Cheetahs standout Terry Prentice scoring 3511 points through five events of the
Intermediate Boys (age 15-16) Decathlon. He leads by 68 points with five events to go!
Ryan Holmes (Loyola HS/Pasadena Running Roses TC) is third. In the Intermediate Girls
Heptathlon, Sarah Brown (Tri-City Christian HS) and Kiani Profit (Muir HS/Pasadena
Running Roses) are both in the top four after the four first-day events!

2005 Meet Information    Regional Championship 2005 Results    Meet Schedule

       The 39th USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships will be conducted at the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium, located on the IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) campus in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.  Over 6,000 athletes are expected. Entry is based on athlete performances at preliminary, Association, and Regional levels of the 2005 USATF Junior Olympic program. Competition age divisions are as follows: Bantam (10 yrs and under), Midget (11-12 yrs), Youth (13-14 yrs), Intermediate (15-16 yrs) and Young Men/Women (17-18 yrs).

     In 2004 at Hayward Field, Louisiana's Kenny Hall (56-02.5w Young Men's Triple Jump and national record 54-10.25 legal), California 7th-grader distance ace Jordan Hasay (California 7th grader), Illinois star Alexandria Anderson and Mississippi flash Bianca Knight topped the girls sprint. For the boys, California sprinter Bryshon Nellum headlined the action in "Track City".
