Heat Winners Plus Next Three Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE (+1.3)—Arthur Wims (Ft. Wayne Express), David Chaplin (Titans) and Tyron Carrie (Tiger), staged spirited three-man battle with Wims running down Chaplin , 21.52 to 21.58 with Carrie in a third at a nonqualifying 21.61.

HEAT TWO (+1.9)—Trey Harts (River Cities), running out of lane one teased the field for the first 100 before pulling away for an easy win in 21.20. Dax Danns (MLK Blasters), who was a finals in the 2005 World Youth championships in Morocco, moved from third to second but it was not enough as his 21.80 did not advance.

HEAT THREE (+1.6)—Evander Wells (New Horizon) and Josh Harvey (River Cities) were even at the half way point before Wells pulled away for a narrow win, 21.26 to 21.49.

HEAT FOUR (+1.6)—Paul Chaney (St. Louis Express), running out of lane 1 and Will Glover, in lane six, were never more that a step apart with Chaney getting the nod, 21.42 to 21.52.

HEAT FIVE (+2.1)—Jacob Scheuerman (Kryptonite), who recently ran a legal 20.90, started slowly but still led wire to wire winning in 21.20. Jonathan Oliver (Dallas Heat) was a nonqualifying second in 21.75.

Heat Winners Plus Next Three Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE (-0.7)—Jahvid Best (Hampton-Phillips), whose best had been just 22.17 (21.90w), just smoked the field with an event leading 21.41. Davin Hill (Team Hurricane) was second in 22.28.

HEAT TWO (-0.7)—Another no-contest with Antonio Sales (Greensboro Champions) winning by .6 in 21.80.

HEAT THREE (-1.5)—Bryson Nellum (Southern California Cougars), as he is wont to do in the heats, just bided his time through the turn and then ran an efficient straight to win in 21.73. Michael Davis (Wildcat) was second in 22.29.

HEAT FOUR (-0.8)—Donald Monroe (C.L. Athletic Stars), running out of lane one and looking very much like a football player, went wire to wire in and unchallenged 22.02.

HEAT FIVE (-0.2)—Keith Johnson (Road Runners), running smoothly but without much turnover, held off Davin Pipkin (Indiana Storm), 21.98 to 22.05.

Youth

Heat Winners Plus Next Four Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE (+2.2)—Ryan Barber (Capital City) ran down Shaquille Tubman (Houston Heat) but both advanced run 22.84 and 22.98, respectively.

HEAT TWO (-0.1)—Randall Carroll (Los Angeles Jets), got out well and showed off a rather upright style of running but had no trouble in winning with a 22.40. Benjamin Ray (Team Ohio) was second in 23.10.

HEAT THREE (+1.5)—Daquan Hargrett (Metro Dade) just blew away the field winning by almost a full second in 22.29.

HEAT FOUR (+1.4)—Justin Chambers (Titans), a strong tall runner, who ran 22.13 in the Region 3 meet, hand no trouble winning in 22.43. Both Michael King (Bay Cities) and DeVon Smith (New Wave) also advanced running 22.97 and 23.15, respectively.

Young Men

First Two in Each Heat Winners Plus Next Two Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE—Stephen Williams (Region 9) went through 200 at 25.2 and was joined by Harold Jones at the half-way point in 55.0. Geoffrey Lesch-Wragge (Chautauqua) jumped the field to take the lead at 600 in 1:24.1 and went on to win in 1:54.50. James Groce moved from third to second over in the final strides to finish second in 1:54.67 and advance to the final.

HEAT TWO—Mikail Eubanks led through splits of 24.7 and 54.8 with Sargbah Tareh (Phatback) second at 400. Matt Duncan (After Burner) moved from third to first over the third 200 passed in 1:24.5 but none of the three finished in the top five. Jonathan Gest (After Burner), Darnell Moreno (Riverside County Swift Performance) and Mychel Word (River Cities), swooped down on the leaders with Gest and Moreno running 1:54.30 and `1:54.32, respectively, with Word an unlucky nonqualified in 1:54.48.

HEAT THREE—Sean Carey (UC Berkeley) led through splits of 35.4 and 54.0, where he was joined by Zachary Malet (Phatback) and Gregory Hudgen (Personal Best). The three were all close at 600 in 1; 23.6 but were soon joined by William Johnson (Cincinnati Express). Johnson was able to pass all but Hudgen and the two finished in 1:53.84 and 1:54.00, respectively. Che Ballenger (Alameda Contra Costa) and Carey also advanced in third and fourth in 1:54.14 and 1:45.34. The competition was so close that a second final could be run with times between 1:54.48 and 1:55.49.

Intermediate

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE—Joshua Frasier (Prefontaine) led through 600 with splits of 26.3, 56.77 and 1:27.5 but Corey Mooney (Wildcats) and Bryan Miller (Track Houston) had made it a three-person race at 700. Miller and Frasier opened up a small advantage to go 1-2 in 1:56.70 and 1:56.78 and just hold off Jake Stephens (Magic City), who also qualified in 1:57.09.

HEAT TWO—Richard Scheff (North side Red Runners) and Lance Roller (Illinois Stealth Bombers) passed 400 in 62.7. Scheff then held off Treg Jeffery (Region 10), 1:57.54 to 1:51.11. Roller was a nonqualifying third in 1:58.62.

HEAT THREE—Jamar Jones (Juventes) was the early leader but at 400 it was a mob scene at 56.88. Kelli Thibou (DC Redwings) drove by James in the final straightway to win, 1:56.10 to 1:56.60. John Minen (Ohio Flyers) got up for third in 1:57.40, which was good enough to advance to the final.

Youth

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE—Howard Shepherd (Wildcat Youth) came in with a best of 1:58.0 and but for the fact that he literally walked the last 50 meters he might have set a personal best rather than the 2:00.12 he was credited with. Make no mistake in the final Cody Harper’s meet record of 1:56.36 for 2001 will come under challenge. Shepherd split 57.62 and 1:27.0. Also advancing were Nathan Mathabane (Dare to Dream) in second at 2:02.40 and Dexter Monroe (Classics) in third at 2:03.40.

HEAT TWO—Davion Waters (Charlotte Flight), Corneilous Dixon (Nashville Illusions) and Antonio Palmer (Firebirds) went by 400 at 58.8. Karlton Mitchell (Texas Storm) moved from fourth to first over the next 200 but could not hold off Dixon, 2:02.30 to 2:03.48. Waters was a nonqualifying third in 2:03.95

HEAT THREE—Nick Bern (Miami Northwest Express), Jodale Burkley (Wildcat Youth) and Julian Parker (Baton Rouge YMCA) were 1-2-3 at 400 in 60.25. Berm and Burkley were 1:31.6 at 600. Burkley won in 2:02.98 with Parker second in 2; 03.12. Alexander Amidon (Region 1) closed quickly to grab third with a 2:03.65, which made him a time qualifier.

HIGH JUMP

Youth

Ramon Romero (El Paso) was the winner at 6-0¾, Leslie Murray (Hummingbird) was second at 5-10 ¾ and Aarrhon Flores was third at 5-8¾.

POLE VAULT

Young Men

Jordan Scott (Spirit) set a personal best and move to second on the national high school list with a first try clearance of 17-1½. Scott Roth (Granite Bay), who finished second at the World Youth Championships in Morocco two weeks ago, also cleared 17-1½ but it came on his second attempt. Phil Hamson (Flying Dragons) was third at 15-11.

Intermediate

Joseph Noonan (SW Suburban) won at 14-11 followed by Gray Horn (Blue Thunder) and Shea Kearney (Ultimate High) both at 14-5¼ with Horn finishing second on fewer misses.

Youth

Kyle Tomasini (Region 12) was an easy winner in 12-3½ with Matthew Armentrout (Xtream Heights) second at 11-9¾ and Maverick Miles (Region 3) third on misses at 11-9¾.

LONG JUMP

Young Men

Joe Kindred (Carolina Allstars) was the winner in 23-6¼. Clyde Young (Cahokia) was second at 23-4¾ and Ryan Doris (Southwest Suburban) was third at 23-4½ as seven jumpers bettered 23-0.

Youth

Leslie Murray (Hummingbird) was first at 20-9 (+1.3) with Devin Kellenberger (South Madison) second at 20-6¼ (+1.1) and Xavier Bennet (D & R Fury) third at 20-1½ (0.0).

TRIPLE JUMP

Intermediate

Brandon Gibson (Mobile Parks) was the winner at 47-5, Dominique Johnson (Dallas) and Wendell Boyd (East Carolina) both jumped 44-9½. Johnson placed second based on a better second jump.

DISCUS

Young Men

Larry Jones (Peak Performance) was the winner at 181-0, Aaron Studt (Region 8) was second at 178-3 and Eric Thomas (Hays, Ks.) was third at 177-9.

Intermediate

Geoffrey Tabor (Ardmore) was the winner at 178-1. Colin Boevers (Region 10) was second in 169-4 and Benjamin Stephen (Indiana Assn.) was third at 165-8.

Heat Winners Plus Next Four Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE (-0.2)—Azraa Rounds (Ladue), running in lane six, got the best of Landria Buckley (Michigan Acceleration), who was in lane one, 24.87 to 24.93.

HEAT TWO (-0.3)—Porsche Ries (Maximum Output), better known for her 100 exploits, used a rocket start to put away Nene Kamate (New York Novas), 23.97 to 24.42.

HEAT THREE (+1.9)—Samilya Nixon (East St. Louis Railers), in lane five, pulled on Kimberly Prather (Ladue), in lane seven to gain the win, 24.24 to 24.46. Breehana Jacobs (Region 2) closed with a rush but could not catch the top two despite a fine nonqualifying 24.55.

HEAT FOUR (+2.1)—Kenyanna Wilson (Arizona Rising Stars), who came in with a wind-aided 23.45 at altitude, allowed the race to be close for 100 meters before pulling away from Kharya Brown (Quiet Storm), 24.05 to 24.239. Charlise Davis (River City) also advanced with at 24.53.

Heat Winners Plus Next Three Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE (+0.6)—It’s a hard thing to say but Sa’de Williams (Southern California Running Cougars), who has run 23.38, did not look particularly good running 23.98 to win from lane one. Danielle Sampley (Knoxville) also advanced with a 24.54.

HEAT TWO (-0.1)—Joanna Atkins (Georgia Lightning) and Danielle Nolton (Miami Northwest Express) were close at 100 meters but Atkins pulled away to win in 24.46 and was the only qualifier.

HEAT THREE (0.0)—Bianca Knight (Ridgeland, Ms.), who finished second in the World Youth Championship in Morocco, ran an ease curve and then accelerated down the straight to win in 23.70 and also was the only qualifier.

HEAT FOUR (-0.9)—Kiara Clark-Lewis (Illinois Heat) went wire to wire winning in 24.56 and Yasmin Woodruff (Quite Fire) got up for second in 24.70 to make the final.

HEAT FIVE (-0.8)—Gabriel Mayo (Region 3), who is in the middle of a great summer, led all the way to win in 24.09. Erica Alexander (Texas Storm) also advanced with a 24.63.

Youth

Heat Winners Plus Next Two Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE (+0.5)—Breanna Hubbard (Light Speed) won easily in 25.01 and Tiffany Hines (Lancaster Lightning) was a time qualifier in 25.49.

HEAT TWO (-0.6)—After one day Stacey-Ann Smith, who is a freshman at Bloomfield High (Ct.), is the find of the meet. In her State Open meet she was second in the 100 in 12.19 and won the 200 in 24.74 both into a 2.2 wind. Here the long and lean sprinter, who was wearing a Jamaican uniform, just blew away the field running 24.00. Second place was 25.70.

HEAT THREE (-1.8)—Takeia Pinckley (Light Speed) won by more that one second in 25.61.

HEAT FOUR (-0.7)—English Gardner (Willingboro) practically ended the race in the first 50 meters with a great start, running 24.74. Blessing Mayvngbe (Wings) was second at 25.61 to become a time qualifier.

HEAT FIVE (0.0)—Serene Williams (Arizona Rising Stars), who ran 24.35 in her regional at altitude, won by more than a second her with a 24.85.

HEAT SIX (-1.3)—Jameice DeCoster (Hummingbird) had a slight lead at 100 and then powered away to a 25.06 win.

800 METERS

Young Women

First Three in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE—Krishna Curry (Music City) and Lyndsay Harper (Albuquerque) were one two through splits of 31.1, 66.6 and 1:40.5 with Vivian McCollum (Jaguar) and Cheris Fletcher (Ruff Riders) made it a foursome at 600. Curry (2:15.36), Fletcher (2:15.71) and Harper (2:15.98) were the automatic qualifiers and McCollum made it on time with a 2:16.44.

HEAT TWO—Jessica Nichols (Mount Pleasant) led and 400 in 66.6 and was joined by Caity Lauer (Ft. Wayne Express) and Ariane Sloan (Capital City Comets) joined Nichols at 600 in 1:38.5. Sequoia McKinney (Region 7) closed well to become the final time qualifier in 2:15.86.

Intermediate

Heat Winner Plus Next Four Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE—Brittany Hall (Georgia Lightning) and Brooke Dinsdale (Cedar Valley) were 1-2 at 400 in 63.3. Hall opened up a lead at 600 passed in 1:38.6. Dinsdale then closed the margin but could not quite catch Hall, 2:13.96 to 2:14.41.

HEAT TWO—Bonita Taylor (United Stares) led at 400 in 63.95 but Nicole Jones (Track Houston) opened up a comfortable margin by 600 meters and won out in 2:12.33. Taylor was second in 2:13.53.

HEAT THREE—Britney Green (Southern Eagles) led at 200 in 30.5 but Tameka Jameson (DC Redwings) took over at 400 in 63.95 and went on to win in 2:13.68. Green was a time qualifier in 2:16.68.

HEAT FOUR—Ramzee Fonderen (Detroit Cheetahs) took the early lead in 28.3 and 62.3 but Chanell Price (United Stares) blasted the third 200 to pass 600 in 1:35.4 and go on to win in 2:10.62. Blaire Dinsdale (Cedar Valley) was a time qualifier in second at 2:15.28. Fonderen was fourth in 2:17.97.

Youth

Heat Winner Plus Next Four Fastest to Final

HEAT ONE—Phyllis Francis (Team Evolution) won wire to wire in 2:18.70. Ellen Dougherty (Cedar Valley) moved from fourth to second in the final straight to be a time qualifier in 2:18.77.

HEAT TWO—Cassandra Skinner (Northside Striders) was the early leader with splits of 29.6 and 66.15. Rebecca Friday (Artemius) took over at 600 in 1:45.0 and went on to win in 2:19.83. Skinner gathered herself again to finish second in 2:20.34 and Kema Harvey (PSA Youth) closed quickly for third in 2:20.15 as both advanced.

HEAT THREE—Thandi Stewart (3M) destroyed the field with splits 29.1, 63.8 and 1:38.5 on the way to a 2:14.66 win. Kate Flood (Central IA) had a big last 200 to finish second in 2:19.36 to become a time qualifier.

HEAT FOUR—Andrea Oaxaca (Vienna Youth) was a wire to wire winner in 2:20.13. Allison Lopez (Region 15) was second in 2:22.13 but did not advance.

Midget (BONUS COVERAGE)

HEAT TWO—Claudia Francis (Team Evolution) looked so ridiculously easy in qualifying in 2:16.42 a 2:12.0 final is not out of the question.

HIGH JUMP

Youth

Shanay Briscoe (Northwest Flyers) won at 5-7 followed by Kaycee Brunel (Team Idaho) and Kiersten Laroche (Hummingbird) both at 5-3 with Brurel gaining second with fewer misses.

POLE VAULT

Youth

Shelby Kennard (Region 12) was the winner at 10-6 followed by Shaylah Simpson (Ultimate High) and Morgann LeLeux (New Heights) both at 10-0 with Simpson finishing second based on fewer misses.

LONG JUMP

Young Women

Ashika Charon (Southern California Cheetahs) was the winner at personal best of 19-10 ¾ (+2.6), followed by Hyleta Young (Port Arthur, Tx.) at 19-3½ (+2.5) and Christina Tupper (SeaTown Express) third at 18-6 (+0.6).

TRIPLE JUMP

Intermediate

Gabrielle Gioia (Personal Best) was the winner at 39-5¾ (0.0), Taylor Nichols (Bakersfield Greyhounds) was second at 39-4½ (+1.6) and Amanda Hunter (Quite Fire) was third at 38-11½ (+1.9).

Youth

Alitta Boyd (Mission Valley) was the winner at 37-8½ (0.0), Amber Jones (North Alabama) was second at 37-0¼ and Jasia Richardson (Central Virginia) was third at 36-9 ¾. (+1.0).

DISCUS

Young Women

Caressa Hutchinson (Chaney) was the winner at 147-8, Rachel Talbert (Wichita) was second at 143-6 and Katherine Tripp (Region 13) was third at 134-9.
