adds record with international implements to his Arcadia record with HS implements

JD Action Pix: Day 1 - Day 2
Local hero Curtis Beach scored 7466 points with international implements to break Craig Brigham's 1972 record (7359). Beach scored 7719 with HS implements, second only all time behind his record 7909 at Arcadia.
After Beach set the HS implements record at Arcadia in April, Track and Field News magazine compared his achievement to the older Brigham mark with international implements: "Expert consensus is that the Brigham mark remains marginally superior." No more.
Asked about the TFN statement, Beach said, "I didn't think it was a legitimate analysis, but I wanted to prove I was the national record holder, and I'm very glad I got it today in my home town."
Richard York MO closed Day 2 strong in the pole vault and javelin to finish second overall with 7007 points. Oklahoma soph Gunnar Nixon was third with 6723 points.
Next were Cory Engel CO 6089, Logann Holloran MO 6003, Evan Weinstock NV 5964, Chandler Rieske UT 5719, Matt Randall CO 5698, Michael Bolligar AZ 5695, and Kobi Rex CO 5589.

Friday
Day 2 consists of 110H, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500. Beach totalled 3766 points in these events in his Arcadia record.
110H: Another 900-point score
Curtis Beach won the 110H in 14.38 for 926 points, raising his total after 6 events to 5067, five points ahead of his Arcadia pace. The next three runners were also quick and are running 2-3-4: Richard York MO 14.67 and 4545 points overall, Gunnar Nixon OK 14.75 and 4534 points, and Cory Engel CO 14.57 and 4398 points.
Beach ran another heat over 42-inch hurdles to get a mark for international decathlon scoring and finished in 14.77 +2.1 for 878 points, giving him a total of 4884 points after 6 events. He has a shot at the national high school record with international scoring of 7359 points set by Craig Brigham of South Eugene OR in 1972. The discus is the only remaining event where the international implement is different from the high school.
 Discus - Curtis Beach's pursuit of national records took a hit as he threw 118-4 for 585 points and a 7-event total of 5652, which is 90 points behind his Arcadia record pace. It was the first event Beach did not win. Kobi Rex CO won with a throw of 119-11, but was in 12th place overall. Gunnar Nixon OK and Richard York MO traded places in 2nd and 3rd with 5097 and 5032 points respectively. Throwers were fighting gusting headwinds.
Pole Vault - Curtis Beach clears 15-5, recovering the points he lost in the discus, with his 8-event total now 6471, minus two versus the Arcadia pace, same as he started the day. After soaring clearances at 13-11 and 14-5, Beach grazed the bar at 14-11. Then he needed three tries to make 15-5, and he was not particularly close on three misses at 15-11. Vaulters battled with where to place the standards as a strong tail wind came and went during the competition.
Javelin - Richard York MO (left) won with a big throw of 172-1, while Beach was below his best at 138-3. Gusting headwinds bothered the throwers.
1500 - Knowing that he could beat the international implements national record with a low score, Curtis Beach ran a leisurely 4:25.40 that was still 11 seconds ahead of anyone else.
Thursday
A big PR of 23-7.25 in the long jump put Beach 16 points ahead of his national record for high school implements after three events. He won the 100 with a time of 11.05 and the shot put with a throw of 43-4.5.
Using the heavier international shot, Beach threw 36-1.25, giving him 2255 points after three events in international scoring.
High jump was a gruelling affair with Beach jumping 14 times, winning at 6-8.25 on his third try. He also went to his third try before clearing at 6-4 and 6-6, and he missed three times at 6-10. After 4 events, Beach was 12 points behind his Arcadia record pace.
Beach came back 30 minutes later with a blistering PR of 47.96 in the 400. That left him only 2 points behind his HS record Arcadia pace.
Scoring with international implement in the shot put, Beach had a first day total of 4006 points.
Preview: Curtis Beach goes for a three-peat, having won this event the last two years. In his last high school meet in front of the home crowd, Beach will try to improve on his national record of 7909 points for HS implements set at Arcadia in April. Beach will compete here with both international and high school implements. The events with a difference are shot put, discus and 110m hurdles (42 inch height vs. 39 for high school). Thus Beach will perform in 13 events to get both international and high school scores.
