In that tradition, the Cowboy Jamboree continues that tradition.
The first Cowboy Jamboree was in 1937, 48 years after the first Oklahoma land race. The Jamboree has continued that tradition and is now the oldest consecutive cross country race in the United States.
It's a race sponsored by and on the campus of the Oklahoma State University. High school boys run a 5K race while the high school girls do a 2 mile race.
It's a huge meet. This year there were more than 300 teams and 5,500 runners.
Now on to the Meet.
Coach Dan Zeroski, briefs high school coaches on the rules for the day. Coach Zeroski is the cross country coach at Stillwater High School and Meet Director of the high school section of the Cowboy Jamboree. Coach Zeroski has 25 years of experience with the meet. So he knows how it goes.
