Teams

Three of the top 4 teams faced off this weekend yet nothing was definitively decided. St John’s (S) defeated Wachusett and Doherty. But as
one observer stated, “is this the Wachusett team we will see in Gardner”? Good Question. Did Leapan and the Triac brothers not run due to
injury or are they holding some runners out of races? We may not know until the the way through the championship race at Gardner.

Even at full strength St John’s (S) may be hard to stop. If XC is dying at the hands of the soccer moms, it doesn’t apply to St Johns (S) which reportedly has over 30 boys on the team.

Individuals

At the Wachusett meet Pat Boehm showed that he is not only one of the best runners in the state, he is now a major threat to qualify in the top 8 at the Northeast Footlocker Region. He defeated Tim Curran who has the 4th fastest HS time ever at Franklin Park, teammate Dave Raymond who ran 9.23 last year and Chris Carvelli who ran 4.21 last year. Even More significant, he broke Scott Estabrook’s course record. Estabrook ran a 9.14 2 mile. Curran tied the old record. In the past 2 years Mass has had 2 runners under 9.00 in the 2 mile (Riley and Powell) another under 9.10 (Sanchez), one who would have been under 9.10 if he ran one (Mohamed) and now Sanchez appears primed to go under 9 and you would have to think both Boehm and Curran could threaten 9.10 this year. Not bad for a state that was far weaker in the
early 90s.
