From starter Aubrey Taylor's opening gun, this was a race of surge and counter. Winslow NJ repeatedly stormed to a big lead, only to see Thomas Jefferson NY rally at the end of the leg. On the anchor leg, TJ surged last to win.

Winslow ("E" for Eagles) roared past the early leaders on the backstretch (below) , but Thomas Jefferson was right with them at the first exchange (right).

This time, Jefferson stayed with Winslow on the first lap (left) and collared the leader in the stretch (right).
