the agony of defeat
 Allison Barnes, lead runner of C. Milton Wright, had a big lead at 2 miles (left) of the 3A girls race. She was laboring coming up from The Dip the second time (right) in the third mile but she still led by 20 seconds. Just 100 meters from the finish she collapsed. After crawling on hands and knees for several minutes, she fell unconscious and was carried to the hospital (below) to be treated for dehydration. CMW still won the race. Coach Donnie Mickey later said Barnes had been ill during the week, but she is fine and will run in NTN in Portland.

Eventual winner Amy Watson, North Carroll junior, climbs out of The Dip.

4A winner Halsey Sinclair , a sopohomore at Blair High School, leads after one mile (right) and coming up from The Dip in the third mile (below), with Broadneck soph Tait Woodward and Wooton freshman Veronica Salcido trailing.

 

Boys

Broadneck soph Matt Centrowitz stalked favored Andrew Jesien, Walter Johnson sr, through two miles before taking the lead before the second descent into The Dip and went on to win by 9 seconds.
