| | | | | The race proved to be a rerun of the Reebok Boston Indoor Games, but the results were somewhat different despite the fact that both races were run in an almost identical fashion. After the lead switched back and forth between various runners for the first three-quarters of the race, it was Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I.), Patrick McGregor (Hoover, Al.), Tyler Stutzman (Western Albemarle, Crozet, Va.), Brett Johnson (Ocean City, N.J.) and Mac Fleet (University City, San Diego, Ca.). Fleet, as he had done at Reebok, made the first move, powering past Johnson into fourth, and then began to close on the leaders. But unlike the Reebok race which he won in 4:09.06, he was only able to move into third as Springer held on for the win in 4:08.47 and McGregor was second in 4:08.61, with Fleet third at 4:08.65 for the top three times in the nation. Stutzman was fourth at 4:10.13 with the No. 5 time in the nation, and Johnson, despite falling early and being shoved into lane 5 in the final lap, was fifth in 4:12.49 to move into No. 9 on the yearly list. The Reebok finish behind Fleet was Springer in second at 4:09.16 and McGregor in third at 4:09.41.
| Emily Lipari (Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) and Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Ms.) took the field through 600 meters but just before the halfway point Camille Murphy (Framingham, N.Y.) took the lead at 2:22.0. At the three-quarters mark it was McGee, Melanie Thompson (Voorhees, Glen Gardner, N.J.), Lipari, Murphy and Emma Brink (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.). With 200 remaining McGee and Thompson broke away from the rest of the runners but it was Lipari who responded with a finish burst of speed over the final 120 meters to win the race in 4:47.44. Thompson was second in 4:48.42 and McGee was third at 4:49.42 for the top three times in the nation. Murphy was fourth at 4:52.90 and Brink was fifth at 4:55.12.
