2002 Indoor Track & Field

Nike Athlete of the Week
presented by DyeStat

Week 11 - ending March 7, 2002

Tianna Madison
Elyria OH junior

Long jumper Tianna Madison joined the national elite as a sophomore last year, winning the Ohio Division 1 state meet and the USATF Junior Olympics intermediate division national championship. Her PR of 19-11 ranked her 13th in the country.

This year Tianna is the national leader with the three best jumps of the indoor season, including her second 19-9 in the Ohio Elite meet at Columbus OH last Saturday. Only three other girls have topped 19 feet this season. Tianna is also a better than average sprinter, winning the Ohio Elite 55 meters in an eye catching 6.6h.

To be the best, you have to face the best, and Tianna will do just that at the Nike Indoor Classic when she goes against 2001 national leader Ychlindria Spears of Texas, who has no meets yet this year.

Keith Moffatt
Menchville VA sr

Keith Moffatt is living in rarefied air this year. When he won the Virginia AAA championship last Saturday at 7-00.25, it was his fourth time over 7 feet this season.

All of this while basketball was taking up most of his time. "I just got done playing basketball a week ago and I really haven't done much high jumping," Moffatt said after his state meet win. "I know I can go higher." He won his regional meet at US#1t 7-2 with NO practice, according to Mike Byrnes' article, Keith Moffatt: a future Olympian.

Moffatt heads a stellar field of seven seven-footers into the Nike Indoor Classic, where his 7-00.25 win last year tied the national record for HS juniors.
