Race of Champions Invitations

CHARLOTTE 4/19/02 -- Meet director Rick Hill has invited 45 teams to run in the Race of Champions at the 4th Great American Cross Country Festival, to be held at Ballantyne Resort near Charlotte NC September 27-28. Hill says ROC will have the deepest fields in Great Am's 4 years, and the girls race will be the deepest ever in the US.

The two races include 35 state champs from 2002 and a total of 23 states are represented.

Hill said the girls race will be the deepest in the history of high school running and the winner may be the best team ever. He added that the boys team is the deepest in our four years and the most balanced. "Any one of 15 teams could win," Hill said. "An incredible battle is shaping up in the 4th, 5th and 6th man positions. Places 50 to 75 will be the most competitive battle in high school sports. I would not be surprised to see all of those spots close to 16:15 and all within 15 seconds of each other."

Hill and his staff are working on the rest of the fields. He projects over 200 schools from around 40 states, 450+ teams and 4000+ runners. Ryan Deak, Bobby Curtis, and Chris Solinsky are all confirmed entries.
