left Scott Fuqua - the official time was slightly different (8:59.50), but the result the same - sub-9 for Alabama star.

above Julie Cathcart completes a distance double, both in meet record time. Julia, who will study as an exchange student in France next year, was pleased with her 3200 PR after a slow 1600 win (5:09.51).

."This is too easy," Scott Fuqua said. "This is the least tired I've ever felt after a race." The Oak Mountain AL senior had just achieved a big personal milestone after almost a year of trying -- a sub-9:00 3200 meters. In the 2001 Mobile Meet of Champions, Fuqua thought he was on the verge of sub-9:00 when he won in 9:03.67. He taped a note on the rear view mirror of his car: 9:00. But it didn't happen until today. Fuqua set all the pace, going out eagerly in 65 and 69 seconds for the first two laps. "Then I had to put the brakes on," he said. The PR came after a hard 2 weeks of training, including 10 miles on Thursday 2 days before the race. He returns to Mobile in 2 weeks to defend his title.

Fuqua's cheering section.applauds his effort.
