43 Beau Bettinger CA led the pack through 400 meters in 54.2 (below), but 44 Pawnee Heights KS sr Christian Smith, who will run for Kansas State next year, was right there and took control in the stretch. (right)

This race reversed the 1-2 finish of the California state meet. Just like a week ago, 174 San Dieguito CA sr Jenna Timinsky, headed for UCLA next year, led the field through 400 meters, but unlike last week, 172 Vintage CA sr Jamillah Titus (signed by San Diego State) could not catch up in the stretch.
