Jesse Williams NC 7-01.75
Jesse Williams misses at 7-3.25, but was perfect through
7-1.75 to win the championship.
Hometown favorite Jesse Williams (Broughton, Raleigh, N.C.), a North
Carolina State recruit and last year’s runnerup, beat national
leader Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas). Both cleared 7-1.75, but Williams
broke the tie by making it on his first attempt while Manson had
a miss.
Williams and Manson were the last two contestants and had three
unsuccessful tries apiece at 7-3.25.
“It’s my home track,” said Williams. “I
live about five miles down the road. It’s big-time . . . in
front of my friends and my family. So that was awesome.”
Third was Michael Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.), last year’s
winner as a sophomore. Morrison cleared 7-0.25.
