Ashleigh Keats KS 143-03

BY ELLIOTT DENMAN

Javelin Throw – Javelin standards aren’t going up and up and up, the way they are in so many other events. The best javelin throw in American scholastic history – OK, with the “old” jav – is Barbara Friedrich’s 198-8 for Manasquan of New Jersey…and that was in 1967.

Ashleigh Keats of Salina, Kansas won with relatively modest 143-3. Just six inches back with a 142-9 second spot was Tiffany Zahn of Newburg, Ore. It was close right down the line – on their heels were Karen Wyzykowski of Old Saybrook, Ct. (141-2), Samantha Young of Klamath Falls, Or. (140-1) , and Ruby Radocaji of Williamsport, Pa. (139-8.) In short, just 43 inches separating the top five.
