Kelly Willie TX 20.83 completes sprint double sweep

5 Kelly Willie edges 6 Brendan Christian
and then the two shake hands

Kelly Willie couldn't shake Brandon Christian completely, but completed a 100/200 double to prove beyond a doubt he's one of the nation's most versatile high school sprinters. The LSU recruit from Houston edged Christian (Austin, Texas) for the second time in as many days, winning with a 20.83 time to Christian's 20.97.Christian won this title two years ago.

Last year as a junior, Willie was the nation's leding prep quarter miler. “Being able to step down and show people and myself that I could do the shorter sprints was one of my goals," he said.

Willie said this was the last race of his high school career. "I thank the Lord I was able to come out here and run the race that I felt I could do," he said. "I'm taking it backhome. I'm really proud of myself. I'm very happy right now."

Third was soph Ivory Williams (Beaumont, Texas) in 21.48, as Lone Star sprinters dominated the top three spots. Next came David Neville (Merrillville, Ind.) in 21.50 and Mark Jelks (Gary, Ind.) in 21.51.

The wind reading for the 200 was -0.3 meters per second.
