The boys mile was vindication for Marc Pelerin. The Cherokee NJ
senior was New Jersey champion in cross country and went to the
Foot Locker cross country finals in Florida last week with hopes
of contending, but ended up 25th.
Pelerin took charge of the mile run in the last quarter mile and
pulled away from a strong field that included another Foot Locker
finalist, Brendan Sullivan, Port Jefferson NY, and New Jersey rival
Chris Platt, ace of the US#4 cross country team, Haddonfield.
"Florida was a huge disappointment, so it feels real good
to get a good race tonight," Pelerin said. He plans to take
2 weeks off ("I've been in training for 6 months now.")
and then decide how to focus his indoor and outdoor campaigns. His
time tonight could put the Millrose Games high school mile in Madison
Square Garden February 1 on his schedule
