I-Perfection Harris is coming off a football season in which he
was the star running back for nationally-ranked Poly Prep of Brooklyn.
But the 5-11, 175 pound senior is wasting no time getting into peak
jumping form.
Today, Harris won the long jump at 24-0.5, his second 24-plus leap
of the week (his 24-8 on Wednesday is a new Armory record), and
later added the triple jump title at 46-4, a meet record.
Harris is the leading returnee from the 2001 indoor season in both
events and looks primed to improve on his fine junior season in
national competition. He was runner-up in both LJ and TJ at the
National Scholastic Indoor championship here in the Armory last
March. Outdoors, Harris won the Golden West long jump in June and
was third at the adidas Outdoor Championships in Raleigh a week
later.
