Glenn DiGiorgio wins with 66-6 throw,
best in the US this season.

Bayonne NJ sr Glenn DiGiorgio has
been chasing Oklahoma star Kevin Bookout for two seasons for US#1
ranking, and he finally caught him, although in absentia. Bookout
would have been here, but his Stroud OK basketball team kept winning
and made it to the state championship final this weekend. DiGiorgio
faced a new challenge in Splendora TX sr Brian Robison, who went
over 66 feet outdoors 2 weeks ago and had booming throws in practice
Friday night. But DiGiorgio was up to the challenge. He took the
lead on his first throw at 65-4 and typically saved his best for
last -- a 66-6 heave that passed Bookout's 66-3.5 on February 2
for US#1 ranking for the 2002 indoor season. Five of his six throws
were over 65 feet.
