Jonathan Wade 6.26 conquers
star-studded 55 meter dash field

H.S. indoor season kicks off in style:
Saturday 1/12/02 - BATON ROUGE, LA -
Jonathan Wade from Evangel C.A. won the loaded-with-talent
55m dash event
at the LSU H.S. Indoor Invitational Meet to kick off the indoor
track
season. The event brought together some of the nation's top
athletes
including several All-Americans from the 2001 season.
Wade's effort was significant for 3 reasons:
**1) He won;
**2) He ran the 2nd fastest time ever by a LA athlete, only
Leonard
Scott's (Zachary) 1997 efffort of 6.25 tops Wade;
**3) His victims included 2001's #1 h.s. 100m sprinter (source:
Track and
Field News, Feb 2002) from Austin, TX - Brendan Christian.
It was a
tight race the whole way but Wade got Christian on the lean.
Other
noteable victims included Morgan City's Jerald Watson (LA's
top all-time
60m @ 6.78 in '01), Aaron Collins (JS Clark, NO), Michael
Grant (GA,
Wade's teammate at WYC in Hungary '02). Wade ran 6.35 in the
prelim as
he easily cruised victory earlier in the day.
The local surprise for meet included ECA's
Chad Johnson who won the
triple jump with a 45-8.75 effort. Keyuntae Dawson, brother
of former
ECA state shot put champ, placed 4th in the shot put with
a 51-10.75
toss.
