3rd Great American Cross Country Festival

This was the 3rd running of the original team-oriented meet with the Race of Champions featuring the best high school boys and girls teams from across the country. The meet moved this year from McAlpine Park in Charlotte to Winthrop Farm Meadows across the state line in Rock Hill SC.

• Bobby Curtis, Ryan Deak, Alison Tubbs, Kingwood TX boys, and Saratoga NY girls are big HS winners, and Alan Webb sizzles in college debut.
  Bobby Curtis 15:09 Curtis remained unbeaten by pulling away from Joe Thorne in the last half mile in the Seeded Invitational, fastest race of the day.	Ryan Deak 15:11.7 Florida soph Ryan, who gave notice last year with his US freshman record 2-mile at the Nike Indoor Classic, passed a gang of veteran runners in the last mile to win the Race of Champions.	Alison Tubbs 16:54.9 Tubbs hammered the field from the start, turning what was supposed to be a close race into a rout. She beat the college women's winning time from Friday night.
