South Lakes beats Atlantic
behind Alan Webb's 1:47.3 anchor
South Lakes VA spotted Atlantic FL 5 seconds on the first two legs
and then roared back for the win. South Lakes' third leg, jr Richard
Smith, made up more than half the gap on Ken Schappert of Atlantic.
Then megastar Alan Webb reeled in Atlantic anchor John Jefferson
with a 51 second first lap (above) and pulled away for a
2-second final margin in 7:35.33, fastest time of the year in the
US and #5 on Jack Shepard's all-time list. Atlantic's 7:37.31 places
#11 on the all time list.
