107th Penn Relays

Girls Distance Medley

Boys & Girls NY romps over Bellport NY
and defending champion San Lorenzo Valley CA

Boys & Girls NY 11:53.64 took command early in a team effort to easily topple San Lorenzo Valley CA, which won last year's Penn Relays in national record time (11:41.28). Bellport NY 12:01.58 and Edwin Allen JAM 12:05.11 also finished ahead of San Lorenzo Valley 12:07.18.

Boys & Girls splits: 1200m Tameika Johnson 3:39.4, 400m Miesue Francis 55.6, 800m Stacy Livingston 2:09.5, and 1600m Akilah Vargas 5:10.

San Lorenzo Valley splits: Raquel Barrientos 3:52.4, Lindsey Scarborough 59.0, Shiloh Whiting 2:19.3 and Ale Barrientos 4:56.5

End of lap 1, Edwin Allen JAM and Villa Marie PA lead early going, with Boys & Girls (B, red and black) right there.
After Tameika Johnson's 3:39.4 opening leg, Boys & Girls already had daylight as Miesue Francis takes off on her 55.6 second leg (400 meters)

San Lorenzo Valley leadoff Raquel Barrientos walks away knowing that her 1200 leg, 10 seconds slower than last year, has her team in trouble. And her teammates also followed up slower than last year.

Boys & Girls 800 meter leg Stacy Livingston awaits baton from Francis.

Livingston hands off to anchor Akilah Vargas
25 seconds later, Ale Barrientos gets the baton, and she makes up 12 seconds on Vargas, but it is too little, too late for San Lorenzo Valley.

Boys & Girls' Vargas cruises alone
throughout the four closing laps

Vargas eyes the finish line.
