Petersburg's Jerome Mathis continued his dominance in the Central District by winning the 100, 200, High Jump, and Long Jump but Thomas Dale still managed to win by a slim margin. The key to the Knight's victory was the second place in the pole vault by surprise entry of Thomas Dale distance runner Roger Yelvington. Other strong performances were turned in by Thomas Dale distance standout Alex Tatu (800, 1600), and the Petersburg "hurdle crew" of Tere George, Terry Thornton, and Alan Sullins.

The one-two punch of Prince George's Lauren Hogan (First: 200, HJ, 4X100 and 4X400; Second: LJ, Third: TJ) and Nicole Pitts (First: LJ, TJ, 4X100 and 4X400; Second: 200) led the Lady Royals to repeat as Central District Champions by a wide margin over second place Thomas Dale. Petersburg's Nicole Cook turned in outstanding performances in the 400 and 800. Freshman Kelli Wells from Colonial Heights turned in a surprise double, winning both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.
