The weekend in PA produced quite a few elite performances, along with a
few US Top 5's and new PA state bests midway through the indoor season.
The weekend also marked the return of Julia Pudlin of The Baldwin
School, following an eight-month layoff.

Slippery Rock January 18 had one of the best shows of the season as McDowell
sensation Sheena Gordon lit up the night with US Top 5 performances in
three events. Her 5-10 High Jump is a US#1. Her 18-08.50 Long Jump is
US#3, and her 7.9 h in the Trials of the 55 Hurdles is a US#4. She also
went 8.62 in the Finals. Other elite peformances from the meet included
an 8.5 h in the 55 Hurdles by Jasmine Rogers of Quaker Valley; a 10-6
Pole Vault by Waynesburg's Jocelyn Lindsay, and a 14-9 Pole Vault by
Hickory's Andy Radamaker.

At the January 18th Franklin & Marshall College Invitational, Manheim
Township's Adam Sheely won the 55 Dash in a US#5 and PA #1 6.43. That
same night, just 50 or so miles to the west, Susquehanna Township's
Marcel Coleman was running a 6.2 at the the Dickinson College
Invitational,
which adjusted for hand-time is 6.44, or US #6. Coleman
also won the Long Jump in 20-10.50.

Also running an elite 55 Dash of 7.28 at F&M was Ashley Small, running
for the York White Rose Track Club. Double winners at the meet were
Nolan McCready of Wyomissing, who took the Triple Jump in 41-03.75 and
the Long Jump in 20-01.25, and Kirsten Andrews of Garden Spot, who took
the 55 Meter Hurdles in 8.90 and the Long Jump with a leap of 15-05.50.

Other elite performances at the Dickinson College Invitational on
January 18 included the 6-9 High Jump of Altoona's Tyler Fedeli, which
is a new US #4, and the 38-01 Shot Put of Mercerburg's Juanita Beaslex.

At the DVGTCA meet January 18 at Lehigh University, William Penn's
Tyeshia Thomas improved her state-leading time in the 55 Meter Hurdles,
going 8.2. The effort puts her in the top 10 US. The meet also marked
the return to competition for Baldwin School's Julia Pudlin, who
competed on the second leg of the 4x800. Pudlin had been out of action
since she fractured her heel at the Loucks Games last May 11. Pudlin ran
comfortably in a time of 2:28 and passed several competitors, helping
Baldwin achieve a school record (10:46.4) as it was the first relay of
any kind run by Baldwin in the short history of its track program. New
Hope-Solebury's Ashley Ippolito won another 800, moving as close as you
can get to breaking through the tough 2:20 barrier, getting that time to
the tenth with a hand-time. William Penn's Thomas was second with a
2:21.0. Juanita Broaddus, Jeanette Rice, Kandis Worthington and Shantia
Byrd posted a 1:45.0 4x200 for William Penn, nipping West Catholic by
.3. And the Hatboro-Horsham quartet of Janine Ricci, Anna Baker, Megan
Rae and Caitlin Klass won the 4x800 in 9:56.2.

On Saturday, January 19th, the Tri-State Track & Field Coaches
Association meet at Robert Morris College
produced a US #8 and PA best
in the 800, and a T US #9 and PA best in the Pole Vault. Shaler's Sam
Bair became the first PA athlete under 2:00 this season, going 1:57.8.
And Hickory's Andy Rademacker vaulted 15-0, the first over 14-6. Other
elite performances included Greensburg-Salem's Akeem Vance nipping
Central Catholic's Andrew Johnson in the 55 Meter Dash, both timed in
6.3; and Vance's Long Jump of 22-01.50. Bethal Park's Kim Duschek
vaulted 11-0 to tie for PA #1. North Allgeheny's Kim Markel won the 55
Hurdles in 8.5. And the 1600 duel was as close at it can get, as West
Allegheny's Christine Taranto took North Allgeheny's Stephanie Madia by
.1 in 5:17.1.

On January 12th at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational, the year of
the Shot Put in PA showed itself again in two efforts. Exeter's Elliot
Seifert went 54-00.25 to win by almost four feet, while Milton Hershey's
Crystal Griffin won by over three feet with a throw of 41-01.25. Janelle
Young of Cedar Cliff was a double winner, taking the mile in 5:34.1 and
the 800 in 2:35.0.
