The top three seeds in the 3000 finished one-two-three as all ran
well.
But
it was Wissahickon's Erin Franklin (left) who pulled away
in the first 800
and powered her way to a 10:27.1. And she looked comfortable the
entire
race, recovering quickly. St. Hubert's Amy Kelly went 10:32.9 for
2nd,
while Villa Maria's Kim Malcolm was third in 10:41.2. In the 600
yards,
Tynisha Gardeir of Girls High dueled Prendi's Pilar Batts, both
breaking
1:30 as Gardner goes 1:28.5 and Batts 1:29.6. New Hope-Solebury's
Ashley
Ippolito won the 800 in 2:21.2. The 4x400 and 4x800 held to form
as
William Penn took both, the first behind Kandis Worthington, Madonna
Patterson, Tyeshia Thomas and Juanita Broaddus in 3:58.9. Earlier
in the
meet, Broaddus, Christina Smith, Patterson and Thomas had won the
longer
distance in 9:39.6. Great Valley was 2nd ten seconds back, while
Villa
Maria was 3rd in 9:53.7. Great Valley's Jen Williams won the High
Jump
for the 14th straight meet with a leap of 5-4.

The field events produced the highlights of the day at the tight
indoor
facility at Widener University in Chester, including a new US#3
and a
tie for US#5. In the Long Jump, Upper Dublin's Nehemiah Leary improved
on his state best leap, going 22-07.50, now the third best of the
season
nationally. Lower Merion's Ryan Westman also cleared 22 feet, by
a mere
half-inch. In the Triple Jump, Galen Rivers, Great Valley, leapt
45-11,
which is a tie for US#5. That still leaves him PA#2 to Norristown's
Mike
Whitehead and his 46-3, which is a tie for US#3.

the

Hoffman, Council Rock made it over 13-0. The first record was in
the 55
meter dash as Mike Storione of Council Rock went 6.5. The Cardinal
O'Hara foursome of Jack Braconnier, Joe Francisco, Steve Hallinan
and
Steve Morgan ran the 4x800 in 8:32.4, bettering last year's meet
record
of 8:35.2 by Coatesville.
Saturday, January 12, 2002 - Montgomery Invitational @ Prince
George
County Sportsplex, Landover, MD - Baldwin HS, from the Pittsburgh
area,
and Wyomissing, from the Reading area, travelled to the site of
the Nike
Indoor Classic on 1/12 to run in the first Montgomery Invitational.
Highlighting the PA performances were the Huss twins, Debbie and
Amy of
Wyomissing, Dan Mazzocco, and Ryan Wotus, both of Baldwin. Debbie
has
obvioulsy recovered from an injury she ran through at the end of
XC,
hitting stride with a 5:22.99 in the mile for 4th. Meanwhile, Amy
took
2nd in the 3000 with an 11:04.75. Mazzocco, content to run a
conservative race, wound up 3rd with a 4:31.29. Teammate Wotus
pole-vaulted 13-06, good enough for 2nd overall.
