by Don Rich, PennTrackXC

Sunday, January 6, 2002 - Philadelphia Catholic League Boys' Meet #2 @
Haverford College - The Philadelphia Catholic League boys hit the indoor
oval for their second meet of the season. Cardinal Dougherty's Miller
took both the 60 in 7.1 (Jackson, West Catholic 7.1), and the 200 in
23.7. He was 3rd and 2nd in those events in Meet #1 12/22. Tariq Boston,
McDevitt, moved up to the 400, winning in 51.8. O'Hara's Joe Francisco
won the 800 in the fastest PA time so far, a 2:00.2, while teammate
Steve Hallinan took the 3000 in 9:10.4. Archbishop Ryan's relay squads
were victorious in the 4x800 (8:44.3) and the DMR (11:18.0), and got 2nd
to O'Hara in the 4x400, with identical times of 3:45.2.

Saturday, January 5, 2002 - TFCAGP Division I @ Haverford College -
Conestoga's Steve Meyers extended his state-best Shot Put standard by
over a foot-and-a-half with a throw of 57-2, a full ten feet ahead of
second place. Troy Roberson, William Tennent, set a meet record that had
been shared by four runners, going 7.0 in the 60 Meter Dash. Other
notable performances included Abington's Lester Caesar, 22.6 in the 200;
Glen Mill's 4x200 of 1:34.5; St. Joseph's Prep's 4x800 of 8:19.0; North
Penn's DMR of 10:49.6, and Joe Francisco's state-leading 4:29.5 mile
running for CardinalO'Hara.

Friday, January 4, 2001 - DVGTCA @ Lehigh University - Danielle Rodgers
is consistent. No, make that consistently excellent. Running the 200,
400 and 800, she tops the state in the latter two distances, and is 3rd
in the 200. On Friday 1/4, she took the 300 yards in a sizzling 36.1
over fellow elite Juanita Broaddus of William Penn (left). Rodgers then
anchored her Penn Wood 4x200 to a come-from-behind win of 1:48.5 with a 24.7 split. In the 800, Rebecca Powell of Pennsbury took the 800 in
2:21.5. The Villa Maria DMR of Andrea Rocky, Tara Kelly, Christine Egan,
and Kim Malcolm went 12:43.7, tops in PA so far this season. And Jen
Williams of Great Valley, equalled her best of 5-4 in the High Jump.

Tri-State Track Coaches Association (western PA)
Friday January 4, 2002 @ Slippery Rock University - In the second meet
of the season for western PA athletes, Sheena Gordon of McDowell, gave
early notice that she is already in great shape. Not just in one, but
three events. Her Triple Jump of 38-3 is a full two feet ahead of the
second best jump of the season. Her Long Jump of 18-3.50 is within .75"
of the top spot. And her 8.3 55 Hurdles is a virtual tie for first in
the state. And she performed all three on the same night. The Pole Vault
has two new state leaders, one girl and one boy. Jocelyn Lindsey of
Waynesburg went 11-0 (Kim Duschek, Bethel Park 10-6), while Hickory's
Andrew Rademacher cleared 14-0. In the High Jump, Erika Frazze of Shaler
became the first girl to 5-5 this season. Akeem Vance, Greensburg-Salem,
went 6.3 in the 55 Meter Dash, easily one of the fastest this year.
Windber Area's Jeff Kiss took the 55 Hurdles in 7.5. And Jessica Perry
of Peters Township doubled, winning the 1600 in 5:36.0 and the 3000 in
11:14.0.

Sunday, January 6, 2001 - Philadelphia Catholic League Girls' Meet #2 @
Haverford College - Tiffany Bradley, West Catholic, took the 200 at the
first meet in December, and added a shorter distance this time around
with the same result-victories. Sunday she took the 60 Meter Dash in 7.6
seconds, plus the 200 in 26.2, .1 faster than Dec. 18. Cardinal O'Hara
took three of the four relays, one better than the first outing, winning
the 4x400 in 4:18.9, the 4x800 in 10:25.3, and the DMR in 13:49.

Saturday, January 5, 2002 - TFCAGP Division II @ Haverford College -
Four meet reords were set or tied at the meet at Haverford College. In
the 200, Pete Harris of Chetsnut Hill Academy broke the meet record of
Penncrest's Jon Rich by .1 with a 23.2. In the 400, Nehimiah Leary,
Upper Dublin, set a new meet record of 51.2, bettering the 51.5 record
set last year by Conestoga's Rich Watson. Great Valley's Ted Segal tied
his own meet record set earlier this year with an 8.4 in the 60 Meter
Hurdles. And Strath Haven's Lennie Carter tied the meet record held by
four others by going 7.1 in the 60 Meter Dash.
