Conrad Haber Each year New Jersey fares well at the Footlocker Regional
meet held at Van Cortland Park. During a good year, New Jersey sends at least
one, sometimes two runners on to the national meet. I think that this year
(2001) will be a return to the "good" years for New Jersey. With
the strong group of harriers in the state only getting better as the season
forges forward I am optimistic that New Jersey will be represented well. Right
now I think that New Jersey can expect to send one, if not two harriers to the
national championships. It is also a good bet that New Jersey will be battling
for (maybe even win) the team title at the Regional Championships, something that
has not occurred since the 1997 Northeast Regional. Disclaimer - It always
seems that there is a shake-up at the Regional meet for New Jersey runners.
At the 1999 meet, Adam Ambros and Mark Weems (6th and 7th place finishers
for NJ) out performed runners like Joe Halin, Nick Pellegrino, Jeff Dicharia
and Bryan Skelly, runners who were picked before the race to have a chance
to possibly qualify for nationals. Therefore it is possible that these lists
could change dramatically. Then again, I guess that is the fun of racing.
