So much for the showdown between #1 Old Bridge and #4
CBA. CBA ran a "B" team at the
Stewart Memorial Invitational causing some fans to
believe that CBA may have feared the big
competition.

"We have the next two weeks to worry about," coach Tom
Heath of CBA said. "I want to make
sure we are ready to run in those races. We'll see
them (Old Bridge) later (Star Ledger)."

In my opinon CBA can justify their actions. In the
next two weeks CBA runs at the Shore
Coaches Invite and the Manhattan Invitational - two
huge meets. If coach Heath felt the need
to rest his runners in preperation for the larger
invites, how can he be faulted? Sounds like a smart
move to me.

The other disappointing news is that CBA will not
square off against Old Bridge at the Shore
Coaches Invite. Old Bridge was expected to race CBA
in the A race but CBA was placed in the
B race instead. Coach Heath stated, "Christian
Brothers is the 26th largest school entered
in the meet and the 25 largest are placed in the A
race (Star Ledger)."

But now lets move on to the poll.

There are some new faces on the poll this week after
an exciting weekend of XC action.

Old Bridge retains their #1 ranking. If you saw the
results you would have the same
impression that I had - dominant. Old Bridge ran away
with the win at the Stewart Memorial
Invite with a spread of only 21 seconds between there
1st and 5th man (who all finished
in the top 10).

Don Bosco was the biggest surprise for me this past
weekend. Perhaps I have not been giving
them enough credit - that has since been corrected.
Don Bosco was just downright nasty
at the Bog Iron Bonanza held at Allaire State Pakr.
Don Bosco had 4 runners under 17 and
another 3 runners under 17:20 between both the junior
and senior class races. Don Bosco's
pack looks really strong. Hunterdon Central better
watch out.

Toms River North also faired well at the Bog Iron
Bonanza. Junior Pete Hess ran 16:08 and
appears like he could be the strong front runner that
TRN needs.

After looking at the race results I took the top 7
from both Bosco and TRN and scored them
against one another as if they were running a dual
meet. Bosco won 25-32. Impressive.

Red Bank makes its first appearance on the poll with a
win in the B Divison at the Stewart
Memorial Invitational. The team averaged 17:18 over
the 5k course - the second fastest team
average of the meet.

Hillsborough also makes its first appearance on the
poll after winning the Passaic Coaches
Invitational at Garrett Mountain. Hillsborough edged
out Memorial for the win. Although not talked about
much, Hillsborough has a solid squad of runners. I
would keep a sharp eye on them.
