The largest regular season invitational in the Kansas City area saw great weather, a near sell-out and enthusiastic crowd, and fine performances. The meet, which features a homecoming style court crowning and formal dance the next night, gathers the best performers from the Kansas side of the state line and eastern Kansas. Over 40 teams competed.
Drew Morano (St. Thomas Aquinas) wowed the crowd on the boys side, and Olathe East in the relays and Amy Hastings (Leavenworth) highlighted the girls show.
Morano swept the sprints, ending worries after he had seemed to slightly pull at last weeks Aquinas relays. He dominated the 100 (10.71), 200 (21.46) and 400 (48.72) fields. In the final race of the night, his 4 x 400 anchor brought the crowd to their feet as the Aquinas junior made up a thirty yard gap on SM Northwest and Lawrence Free State, roaring by in the homestretch with a 47.1 anchor leg.
Lawrence Free State's Justin White won the 1600 (4:26.77) and ran a leg on Free State's 7:59.25 4 x 800 winner.
