SUNFLOWER LEAGUE MEET @ JCCC, Overland Park, Saturday 10/13
Cold and windy, overcast skies, good footing - Detailed Results

Kansas' strongest cross country conference, made up of 6A school's from the suburban Kansas City area, once again put on a show at Johnson County Community College.
In the boys varsity race Lawrence High (ranked #1 in the state coaches poll) edged many-time defending state champ Shawnee Mission Northwest (#2) 45 to 49, with #3 ranked Lawrence Free State third at 84. Eight ranked Olathe East slipped to seventh (163) behind SM South 133, SM East 140, and Olathe South 156, showing the conferences strength. SM West (166), Leavenworth (210), Olathe North (303), and SM North (316) rounded out the varsity scorers.

Lawrence was led by the 1-2 finish of Justin McClain (16;15) and Justin Riley (16:18) who broke from a large lead pack with a mile to go. Ryan Hopper (16;20) and Will Polk (16:25) led SMNW in 3rd and 4th with Leavenworth's Dallas Henry (16:39) rounding out the top five. Team places saw Lawrence at 1-2-8-12-22 and SMNW at 3-4-6-17-19, setting up an exciting next two weeks in the hunt for the state title.

Shawnee Mission Northwest (ranked #1) showed impressive pack strength in the girls varsity race, running a 15 second split for their scoring five to score 58, defeating SM East (#4) with 73 and Olathe South (#2 tie) with 80. Lawrence Free State (#6) scored 109, with Lawrence 119, SM South 159, Olathe East (#8) 179, Leavenworth 189, Olathe North 236 following.
Amy Hastings (Leavenworth) broke from the field mid-way through the race to score an 11:46 two mile victory. Defending 6A state champ Alysha Galbraith (12:03) and Amy Gouchnour (12:04) gave Olathe South a 2-3 finish, with Mallory Richardson (12:18-Free State) and Connie Abbot (12:19-SM South) finishing out the top five.

EKL @ Stanley Nature Park, Stanley KS
The East Kansas League saw a match-up of some of the state's top girls teams, as Blue Valley West's Elle Pishny made a late race move to win in 11:51 from Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege's Sara Glatt (11:54). Taryn May led team champion Blue Valley Northwest (ranked #2 tie in the state 6A coaches poll) in third (12:13), with team mates Kristina Rand (12:26) and Christine Lathrop (12:32) rounding out the top five. Northwest (48) edged new rival Blue Valley West (53) for the team title. West, a new school that just opened in August, has stamped itself as a 5A team title threat in their first year open. Bishop Miege 56, Aquinas (76) Blue Valley North (103) and Blue Valley (188) followed.
In the boys race, Grady Sullivan of Blue Valley North won the individual title in 16:38, edging Paul Hefferon (Blue Valley West 16:43). Hefferon was hampered after taking a wrong turn with about a half-mile to go. Bryce Benton (BV West-17:02) and Alan Cabe (BV West 17;02) helped West to second in the team race behind Aquinas, led by Ross Bauer (5th-17:04). Aquinas used strong pack running to edge BV West 39-40. Blue Valley North (75), BV Northwest (95), Bishop Miege (106) and Blue Valley (155) followed.

FRONTIER LEAGUE @ Gardner-Edgerton HS
Matt Noonan continues his undefeated season, leading Baldwin to a succesfull defense of it's Frontier League title. Noonan won in 16:37, leading team mate Eric Black (17:14). Baldwin (ranked #1 4A) scored 27 to romp away from Gardner-Edgerton 67 and Anderson County (73). Wellsville 103, Eudora 148, Paola 155, Loiusburg 181, Spring Hill 190 finished the team scores.
Erca Ogle led her Baldwin team mates with an individual title in 12:43, leading a Baldwin sweep of titles. Baldwin defeated Paola 28-40 for the team title, with Gardner-Edgerton 72, Wellsville 98, Spring Hill 129, Louisburg 179 rounding out the team scores.

Centennial League @ Stateland Cross Country Course, Topeka
An exciting girls team race highlighted the Centennial League championships, with Emporia (56) edging Topeka Seaman (57) and Shawnee Heights (59) for the title. Defending 5A state champ Trisa Nickoley ran to a 12:12 two mile, winning by 18 seconds.
Matt Swedlund led #4 (6A) ranked Topeka Washburn Rural to the team title on the boys side, winning in 16:25 over Topeka Seaman's Tyler McClellan (16:36). Washburn scored 35 to defeat Emporia (ranked #5 6A) with 44.

Thursday Results

MCAA: Hillsboro won the boys title by a score of 42 to Lindsborg-Smokey Valley's 53. Ross Fishburn of Hesston won by one second in 17:02 over Smokey Valley's Heath Larson. Halstead romped to the girls with 20 points over Wichita Collegiate's 70. Leah Cox (Halstead) won the individual tite in 12:57

Chishom Trail
Buhler edged Maize 29-34 for the boy's title. Jared Silsby (Maize) won in 16:40 over Matt Vieyra (Buhler) 16:44. Andover, led by Micah Land's 11:51 individual title, won with 27 points to Goddard's 68.
In the Division II races, Jeff Laha's Clearwater squad's swept the boys and girls title, with Andover's Daniel Simon winning in 16:07 over Rose Hill's Ryan Ghaffri (16:38).

 

I-70 League @ Manhattan:
Harper McConnell led all seven Manhattan runners to top twenty finishes, as Manhattan overwheled the field to win the I-70 girls title. McConnell won in 12:15, leading teammate Sam Whickham (12:29) and Topeka West's Andrea Hall (12:41).
Topeka High repeated as boy's team champ with Blake Beckman (Topeka High) leading most of the way to win in 16;45. Salina South's Davidson (no first name provided) was second in 16;53 while Topeka West's Mike Schoenhal was third at 16:58

Washington Invitational: Wakefield swept an invitational of independent 1A-2A powers from north central Kansas. Wheeler (Onaga) won the boys title at 17;18 and Ohlde (Linn) took the girls at 12:35

Mid-East Kansas League: Riley County's boys continued their reign as MEKL champs, scoring 34 points to beat Alma-Wabunsee 55. Keen Umbher of Wabunsee won in 16;41.
Northern Heights girls defeated Riley County 49-65 in a battle of 3A powers, with Rock Creek a close third at 69. 3A state favorie Erin Mortimer (Riley County) scored a 11:28 win over Blair Spencer (Mission Valley) at 12:16, and Amy Van Gundy (Northern Heights) 12:36

Delaware Valley Meet @ Rim Rock Farm, Lawrence
Jeff County North's Jamie Knoll chased former KU coach Bob Timmon's truck all over the Rim Rock Farm course, winning in 13:16 over a rugged 2 miles. McLouth beat Horton on the tie-breaker, both scoring 57.
Eric Wellman of Horton won the boys race in 17:25, with #1 ranked (2A-1A) Kansas City Christian taking the boys title with 32 points.

Heart of America Conference @ Carey Park, Hutchinson
Hutchinson Trinity swept the boys and girl's title's in the HOA meet. The girls pack of Courtney Brin (12:01), Maggie Foss (12:06)(12:16) and Christina Green seperated from the field and ran together. Trinity, ranked #5 in 1A-2A scored a 1-2-3-4 finish. The Trinity
Boys (ranked #2) also won with 38 points to Berean Academy's 56. Sedgwick's Cory Enterkin dominated the boys race with a 15:56 for the fast 5k course.

Central Prarie League: Kyle Johnson led Chaparral to the CPL title, winning by almost 45 seconds in 17;28. Chaparral also won the girls title with Rachel Boyd (Medicine Lodge) winning in 12:47

Wheatland Invitational @ Wheatland HS, Grainfield
Erin Locke of Wakeeney cruised an 11:43 two mile to defeat Kayleen Dittmar of Tribune 12:16. Wakeeney defeated Dighton 40-59 for the girls title.

MSAA @ Hoisington
Adam Willis of Hoisington won the individual title in 17;45, while Larned won the team title with 28 points. Andrea Meierhoff of Ulysses won the girls title with a 12:18, while Pratt took the girls team title with 30 points.
