Manhattan - St. Thomas Aquinas - Great Bend - Goodland - Elllis - Lincoln

Manhattan Invitational @ Warner Park 9/1/01:
Sub 11:10 3200 runners Erin Mortimer (Riley County) and Harper McConnell
(Manhattan) hooked in the girls race, with 5A state champ Trish Nicoley
(Shawnee Heights) thrown in for good measure! When the smoke cleared off
Warner Park, Mortimer had pulled away in the final mile for an 11:35 to 11:44
win over McConnell. Nicoley was third at 11:57, with Manhattan's Sam Wickham
fourth at 12:31, and Dana Seibel leading her Emporia team to victory in fifth
at 12:36.
Washburn Rural, ranked #2 in 6A, won the boys title 59 to 79 over Topeka
Seaman. Washburn's Matt Swedlund (16:16) and Joe Zimmer (16:31) ran 1-2 for
the Junior Blues, with Mike Nickerbocker (Emporia-16:31), Blake Beckmann
(Topeka High-16:53) and Tyler McClellan (Topeka Seaman-16:54) following.

St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational @ Johnson County CC, Overland Park KS 9/1/01
Lawrence High upended defending 6A champion Shawnee Mission Northwest
40-45 in the boys race, while the SM Northwest girls scored a victory in
their race.
Ryan Hopper (16:29) and Will Polk (16:34) ran 1-2 for Northwest, while
Justin Riley (16:42) and Dylan McClain (16:44) ran 3-4 for Lawrence. Jason
Jenney (Lawrence Free State-16:53) rounded out the top 5.
Lawrence High's Sarah Butler (12:10) pulled away from Ottawa's Lisa
Morrisey (12:24) in the last 800 to win the individual title. Mallery
Richardson (Lawrence Free State-12:25), Kate Swain (SMNW-12:25) and Tracy
Bamberger (SMNW-12:30) completed the top 5.

Great Bend Invitational @ Barton County CC 8/31/01
Great Bend, winners of the boys and girls 5A titles in 2000, opened their
season where they left off last year, sweeping both titles at their home
invitational. Hutchinson's Morgan Bonds, 6A runnerup last year, won the
girls title in 12:06.

Goodland Invitational 8/30/01
Colby's girls ran to the team title.

Ellis Invitational 8/30/01
In top small schools action in Western Kansas, Jolene Mick (11:38) and
Ashley Noel (defending state 2A-1A champ) ran 1-2 to boost Osborne to 42-44
victory over Wakeeney-Trego County, with Norton third at 63. Osborne's Tejay
Collins won the boys title in 15:36 over Wakeeney's Todd Trapp (15:59) to
lead his team to 34 to 52 win over Grainfield-Wheatland, a long time 1A
power. Norton was third with 53.

Lincoln Invitational 8/30/01
Wakefield (28) won an easy victory over TMP-Marian (60) in the boys race,
led by individual champ Brendan Coyle. Lincoln's Abbie Obermueller won the
girls race (13:50) over a rugged course to lead her squad to first (26) over
Wakefield (36)
