Boys - Girls
First person account of the Boys Championship race
What a race! So many good teams and individuals made this better
in my opinion than any of the california state races. The weather
was awesome! about 75 degrees with just enough wind to keep the
heat off.
The race went out pretty conservative. Billy Nielson, Brett Gotcher,
Eric Maldanado, and Casey Burchill came by the mile at a reserved
4:50-52. Kevin Davis and Luke Llamas joined the lead pack in the
second mile with Billy and Brett leading by about 15-20 meters at
the two mile. All came through in a time span of 9:45-55 at the
two mile. After that Luke Llamas made a move before the mile to
go mark to go catch Billy and Brett. By this time Brett had fallen
a little back from Billy and the lead pack had about five meters
in between each runner. Billy ran a blistering 15:10~ with Gotcher
just under15:20. Burchill was sixth in 15:33.
That is an awesome time that Billy ran. I think Yung Song would
have had a hard time staying with that today. Much like the NCAA
pre-nationals, this was an awesome meet for everyone to size each
other up on the State meet course. All in all an awesome race. --
