California Cross Country 2001

Weekly Roundup 10/6

Clovis Invitational

Biggest meet of the weekend. Footlocker Favorites Billy Nelson (Taft) and Brett Gotcher (Aptos) wage a close battle with Nelson's 15:10 prevailing over Gotcher's 15:17. Small school McFarland boys shock everyone by scoring 146 to stun nationally ranked powers Canyon (150), Rubidoux (151) and LB Poly (162). Amber Trotter posts scorching meet record 16:55 winning by 1:40 in the very competitive race. Ayala girls win with 136 points, 1:39:04 team total.

Big Ditch Invitational

Jose Marino (Paso Robles) rolls in 15:43, winning by 27 seconds and leading his mates to the large school win with an impressive 36 points. Brittany Grimes (Centennial) flies to a solo 18:02 winning by a stunning 54 seconds and likewise powering her team to the win. David Cassidy (St. Joseph, Santa Maria), 16:30 and Nicole Martinez (East Bakersfield),20:11 likewise lead their teams to small school wins.

San Gabriel Valley Invitational

Sophomore Mohamed Trafeh (Duarte) continues his amazing season with a quick 15:39. Laura Meyers (Maranatha, Sierre Madre) rolled to a half minute victory margin in 18:34. Glendora boys (85:05) and Maranatha girls (1:01:39) are the fastest of the day.

Artichoke Invitational

Giliat Ghebrey (Logan) wins large school race in 11:31. Castro Valley boys with 70 points. Saratoga's Will Kraemer wins small school boys by 3 seconds in 11:42 on the 2.25 mile course. University boys with 46 points win small school boys easily. Sacred Heart Cathedral star Shannon Rowbury powered to a 13:27 victory. She leads her teammates to the razor thin team title with 82 points just ahead of Bret Harte who finished with 83 points. Archbishop Mitty Freshman Mckayla Plank impressed in the small school race, winning in 13:50 and leading her team to the 108 point team win.

Bella Vista Bronco Invitational

Tim Nelson (Liberty Christian, Redding) the defending CIF State Division 5 champion blasted his way to a meet record 16:24.3 for 5K. St. Ignatius boys race to team time of 87:47 as the fastest of the day. Jenny Aldridge ran a meet record 18:41.1 in leading two others under the previous meet record and her team to the fastest girls time of the day (1:01:30).

Central Park Invitational

Mike Poe (Etiwanda) flies to a stellar 15:10 win while the Santa Anna Valley boys posting a 171 point team effort. Green Valley's Emily Eskin got all the fight she could handle from Hadas Moser (University) but prevailed 18:25-18:26. Her Green Valley team gained the team win with a 100 point total.

The Nogales/Foothill Invitational

took place on 9/22/01

Jordan Horn (Alta Loma) wins, running 14:38 for the 2.92 mile course. In last weeks roundup he captured the Warren Stouffer Invitational and is putting together a very fine season. Carissa Marin (CS) wins easy in 18:01.

Kenny Staub Invitational

David Napper (Cyress) leads three boys under 16 with a fine 15:48 clocking. Barstow boys with 38 points and an 82:21 team total. Emily Vince (Peninsula) dominates the field running 18:04 for an enormous 1:35 margin of victory. Her mates pour in 3,4,5,10 for an excellent 23 point win.

Ram Invitational

Madera boys continue their dominating season behind 1,2 punch of Chris Britton and Michael Barrera. They total 33 points, 78 ahead of their nearest rival. On the girls side Sacred Heart Cathedral's Shannon Rowbury and Michelle Gallagher swept the top 2 places but their team got beaten by a balanced Madera squad that scored 63 to their 100.

Saint Augustine Small School Invitational

Tyler Middleton (LJCD) in 16:38 5K, Jenna Timinsky 15:28 2.75m, wins by 1:44!!
