March 14, 2001

Dear media member,

This letter serves to notify you on details of the 34th annual Arcadia Invitational track and field meet, slated for Saturday, April 14, 2001. After a one-year venue change, the meet will be returning to Arcadia High School this spring, with the dual-session meet (open portion from 11 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.; invitational portion from 4 p.m. to 10:05 p.m.) keeping the exact same time schedule as in years past.

The meet, regarded as the premier in-season track and field competition in the nation, is shaping up to be another outstanding affair. We have already received initial commitments from top event standouts representing 20 states and two foreign countries (Canada and Australia), with additional standouts still inquiring daily for entry information.

Among the leading draws in a Who's Who field thus far are the sprint relay crew from Reagan High in Austin, TX, anchored by the nation's premier sprint talent in junior Brendan Christian, who established the all-time indoor national record over 200 meters (21.02 seconds) at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York City this past weekend. Other current or former national record holders partaking in the event are Angel Perkins (Gahr High, Cerritos, CA), Monique Henderson (San Diego Morse High, CA.) -- both Olympic Trials qualifiers in 2000 -- Jeffrey Garrison (J.W. North, Riverside, CA.), Michael Hilbe (Hamilton HS, AZ), and freshman phenom Natasha Hastings (Philip Randolph HS, NY), who recently smashed one of global sprint icon Marion Jones' national age-group records!

Also among the showcase events are the multi-lap affairs, where an unprecedented in-season talent pool is being assembled, including such outstanding names as California's Anita Siraki Liza Pasciuto and Clara Horowitz, Utah's Laura Zeigle, Wyoming's Alicia Craig, and Pennsylvania's Julia Pudlin -- all were finalists at the 2001 Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships in Florida.

Many other events also boast very, very deep fields being headlined by some of the leading talent in the entire nation. All told, more than 80 national-caliber talents and many very accomplished relay units will be in attendance for the 2001 edition of the meet, part of an estimated 2,000-athlete contingent representing approximately 500 schools from across North America and Australia. Seeding for the meet will take place in the first few days of April, with media members then immediately being mailed a press release with final entry highlight information. Additional information and full entry fields will also be accessible on the Internet at www.prep.caltrack.com
