The 2001 Glenn D. Loucks Games will be different from the previous 33 meets. Several changes have been made to help ensure that the great meet becomes even better!
We have added the Women's 2000m steeplechase to our list of events. Thus, the Glenn D. Loucks Games become one of the first meets in the east to feature this challenging event. We hope this addition will attract many of the fine distance runners from the area. As many of you know, this year New York State will feature the women's steeplechase at its state championships.
Other changes include the dropping of the qualifying rounds in several individual events; 400m dash, 400m hurdles, 800m run, and 1600m run. In addition, two relays, the 4X100 and the 4X400 have also dropped one qualifying round.
The dropping of these events means that the 400 meter dash, 400m hurdles, and 4X100 will be competed over two rounds, semifinals on Friday and finals on Saturday. To qualify for the Saturday finals in each of those events, contestants will have to be among the top 6 fastest in Friday�s semifinals.
The 800 meter run, 1600 meter run and the 4 X400 will be held as finals by sections on Saturday, dropping their qualifying rounds on Friday. To help assure proper seeding, we are requiring coaches to verify the seeds in the 800m, 1600m and 3200m, by stating the names of the meets at which the performances were made. We will use armorytrack.com, dyestat.com and other suggested sites to verify the performances. Please note that no athlete will be allowed to compete in the top-seeded sections without verification.
The 3200m run has been moved to Friday evening. This change will allow the runners to compete during a cooler period of the day, while also allowing more chances for doubling in distance races.

The 2000 meet marked the inaugural Tri-State Relays, an event that brings together 4X400 and 4X800 teams from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. This year we will combine this event with the event formerly known as the Section 1 Relays (for teams from Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Rockland Counties). Each school will be allowed to enter two relays in each event. After the race, there will be two sets of medals presented. First the awards will be presented to the top 5 teams in the Tri-State race. Then the top 5 teams in the Section 1 race will be awarded their medals. Section 1 teams could receive two awards.
This year we will feature junior wheelchair races. Athletes in these events will compete for the same awards as the other athletes. We believe that we are one of the few meets in the nation that will have these events mainstreamed into its schedule.
Although he wouldn�t admit it, the final change is a major change. Nick Panaro has stepped down as meet director. The Loucks Games owe much to this great innovator. It was Nick who proposed to reinstate the 4X800. He also was the impetus behind the Section 1 Relays and Tri-State Relays, as well as the force behind the addition of the women�s pole vault and steeplechase. Nick, dedicated many hours to the betterment of the Games. He is still involved as the Clerk-of-the-Course, and chief advisor to the new meet director. Nick thank you for everything.
