Lake Braddock sweeps team titles
Alan Webb gets 1000 meter record -
2:23.68
- winning by nearly 10 seconds.
Webb moved
up from 3rd all time on the 1000 meter indoor list (2:24.13 at Virginia
Tech last month) to #1. The South Lakes Reston VA senior, who set
the indoor mile record with his sub-4 run in New York, broke the indoor
1000 meter mark set in 1987 by George Kersh, Pearl MS,
2:23.86. Webb's 1000 meter record came about an hour after
he set a Virginia state record of 4:12.11 in the 1600 meters.
Although a strong field was supposed to set up Webb for a record try in the 1000, he ran off from the beginning and when he finished there was a gap of nearly 10 seconds to the rest of the state's best. Splits by Pearl Watts: 27.5 seconds for the first 200 meters; 57 seconds at 400 meters; 1:11 at the 500 meter halfway mark; 1:25.5 for 600 meters and 1:55.15 (F.A.T.) at 800 meters.
Topping off his day, Webb ran a 50.6 split in the 4x400 relay to help his South Lakes team to a second place finish behind boys team champion Lake Braddock.

Alonzo Moore, was off his US#1 triple jump, but still won in 48-8.25 (Ryan McCoy 48-1.75)
B.J. Hancock and Kevin Watson waged a terrific dual in the 55 hurdles as befits their US#4t ranking. Hancock won, 7.36 to 7.38.
Mark Kupets 15-3 PV (with Centreville teammate David Sullinvan at 15-0)
South Lakes boys won the 4x800 without Webb; working their way up from last through the first three legs and then winning on Richard Smith's 1:54 anchor split in 8:00.78, with less than a second to spare on W. Springfield.
Ara Towns 7.03, improving on her US#3 ranking
US#7 ranking hurdler Keosha Sanders won her specialty in 8.18 and doubled in the 300 at 40.18
Bethel girls 3:57.85, leading two more under 4:00
Amy Seward doubles in the triple jump 39-6.25
