2001 Outdoor State Meet

They come from all over Texas to Austin for the championship showdown on the University of Texas campus in Austin.  With five classes in an all-finals format, there are probably more athletes here than in any other state meet.  Even though they moved out of the football stadium into a soccer/track facility, the crowds are still the biggest in the country for a state meet.  Last year there were 25,000 to 30,000 fans per session over a day and a half of non-stop action, whether it was the nation's leading pole vaulter or any of the state's endless supply of sprinters.

US#1 pole vaulter Sage Thames will defend his title this year
