BOYS

There is no doubt in anyone's mind who will win this region: Dathan Ritzenhein, Rockford MI sr, has won every significant race he has entered since surprising the nation in his sophomore year by winning the 2-mile at the Foot Locker national outdoor championships in June 1999.  He is the defending Foot Locker national champion, having torched one of the strongest fields ever with a 600-meter finishing kick at Disney World, Orlando FL, last December.

GIRLS

Michigan's top flight girls (Rockford, the Anderson sisters, and the Rochester Adams 1-2 state meet pair) are a formidable challenge to the region, but there are some equally formidable challengers from other states.  Penny Splichal ND had the second fastest time at the Great American.  Megan Kaltenbach CO, already a 2-time state champion as a sophomore, ran second at Great American to Alicia Craig.  Jeni Frudden IA and Brooke Novak WI are decorated runners without Leader List times because their states do not run 3 mile distances.   Here are the top returning runners from last year's Foot Locker Northeast regional:
