Wolfe Captures Girls

Jessica Wolfe (1st place) and Claire Conron (3rd place) led Bishop Ireton High School to a surprising 2nd place finish at the Virginia State Catholic Championship on Tuesday, October 31. Megan O`Donnell (15th), Clare Ferguson (23rd), and Eileen Kuletz (26th) were the other top scorers for Ireton. Paul VI, Bishop Ireton, and Bishop O`Connell, the three northern Virginia schools in the meet placed 17 runners in the top 25 places. The first 15 girls were named to the All-State Catholic team. The meet was held in cool, 60 degree weather at Newport News Park, Newport News, Virginia.
The boys varsity race was won by Bishop O`Connell, with Paul VI in second place, and Bishop Ireton in fourth place. Bishop Ireton was led by Nick Mazzenga`s strong 5th place finish, followed by Paul Shlesinger in 18th place, Nick Steshko in 21st place, and Mike Bruce in 23rd place. Mazzenga was named to the All-State Catholic team.
