from George Phillips, www.ncpreptrack.com

October 29 -- Julia Lassiter-Lucas (Charlotte Myers Park HS) who ran a 17:38.1 5k October 7th at the Wendy's meet, is out for the season with an ankle fracture suffered at her state regional meet. Also, Casey McGraw (Morganton Freedom HS), 21st at the 1999 National FootLocker (17:56), was not able to run at the regional and is likely out for the season. Lucas and McGraw are both juniors.

McGraw was 1999 North Carolina 4-A state champion with Lucas second. McGraw has a best 5k of 17:54.0 run on the McAlpine course at the '99 state regional.

Top contenders for the NC 4-A championship (Nov. 4) now appear to be Ginger Wheeler (Winston-Salem Mt. Tabor HS) and Kristen Stroup (Watauga), who ran 18:29 and 18:41 at Wendy's.

Another NC runner to watch for at the FootLocker South Regional, Nov. 25th at McAlpine, is junior Laura Stanley (Carolina Day) who ran 17:57 (5k) Sept. 28th at the Owen Invitational in Black Mountain, NC. Stanley also won the Furman Invitational Oct. 14th in 18:33, beating Wheeler by 18 seconds.
