McKay 4-way

Jenny Goff edges Dawn Morgan by 2 seconds

from John Parks

Some impressive running today at Bush Park in Salem, a class B course with marks previously reported for Dawn Morgan and Erin Gray.

Today in a 4-way meet hosted by McKay HS with perfect weather conditions - overcast mid 60's and no breeze we had 4 super performances that make the list.

In the girls race there was a showdown between Dawn Morgan of McKay and Jenny Goff of Cascade (Turner, Or). The two ran stride for stride the entire distance until the final 150 meters when Goff edged ahead to win in 18:04 to 18:06. Goff is a senior who placed in the top 4 in the 3A state meet in Oregon last spring in the 800, 1500, 300 hurdles and high jump. Last Saturday at the Rogue River Invite Goff let Paris Edwards of Ashland get an early 12 second lead on her and she ended up losing 17:57 to 18:12. Her older sis just finished competing for Stanford in the heptathlon and her brother Jay red-shirted there last year as a frosh after winning 3 state titles and a second his senior year in 99. Third place in the race behind Goff and Morgan was Korb of Corvallis HS who ran 20:03. The Cascade team is ranked 2nd in 3A in Oregon and Jenny was second in the 3A meet last year but has beaten the defending champion already.

In the boys race the McKay senior pair of Carlos Ruiz and Josh Edson went 1-2 to lead their team to victory with 25 points. Ruiz ran 15:58 while Edson was second in 16:05. Third was Swanson of Lebanon in 16:32. The Valley League District meet along with about 5 other Oregon district meets will be held on this course next week.
