Preview

This weekend some of the best midwestern teams will converge on Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Chile Pepper Festival sponsored by the University of Arkansas. The 10K open division will start off the day followed by the University divisions. Large crowds are expected to watch the nationally ranked Razorbacks compete.

The high school divisions will follow. Below are the high school teams expected to enter along with their states rankings. In the high school girls race, Bentonville(AR) with the Owensby sisters will make a bid for the team title. Oklahomas Bishop McGinness will be led by Amanda Jordan who won this race 2 years ago. Mountain Home's Dawn Crawford and Harrison's Heidi Vondermeyden will also play roles in the individual competition as well as leading their respective teams. The high school girls will compete over a 2 mile course.

There has been much anticipation regarding the boys race as Arkansas's #1 Mountain Home will race for the first time against defending (and 9 out of the last 10 years!) state champion Rogers. Oklahoma's #1 Edmond memorial will be tough in the team competition. Edmond Memorial is led by Marc Shumate & Tyler Schmiedeberg who are two of some of Oklahomas best. Rogers will be led by perennial All Stater, Scott Swearingen. Mountain Home has three front runners led by 1999 State AAAAA cross country champ Eric Gross, 99 cross country runner-up Logan Thomas, and All stater Peter Marston. Cabots Chris Behrens will also play a part in the individual picture.
