  • The Story by moodyrunner - Dathan 14:35!
Splichal Romps! Midwest looms strong again at Orlando.
  • Results
    Dathan Ritzenhein MI
    - The defending national champion continued his season-long pattern of running 20-30 seconds faster than last year - a scary thought indeed for the opposition in Orlando.  Ritz won the Midwest Regional in a time of 14:35, beating his own course record at University of Wisconsin, Parkside by 20 seconds.  Before Ritz last year, no high schooler  had broken 15 minutes on this course.  Ritz set all the splits in 4:37, 9:16, and 14:00 for the mile markers.
    Penny Splichal ND
    - The Arkansas-bound star won the girls Midwest regional almost as easily as Ritzenhein won the boys.  Her winning time of 17:22 beat Victoria Jackson's 1999 time by 17 seconds, and Jackson went on last year to place second at Orlando.  Runner-up was  Maria Cicero IL in 17:38.
