US#7 Iowa City West girls sweep 3 meets
from Larry Hadden
Fort Madison Invitational
West High's cross country teams swept the Fort Madison Invitational on Thursday, crowning the boys and girls individual champions and winning both divisions.
Jeni Frudden won the girls race in 12 minutes, 39.83 seconds and Lesley Smith was second in 13:08.80 as West's girls scored 21 points to win. The Women of Troy had six of the first eight places in the race.
"This was a great meet," West coach Mike Parker said. "They're truly the best team in the state."
Chris Jones won the boys race in 16:23.70. The Trojans scored 30 points for first place.
Frudden and Jones remained undefeated for the season.

City's top five runners in the girls race finished within 15 seconds of each other - a season best - led by Nelle Trefz in third place in 12:24.
Jon Lamb led City's boys with fourth place in 16:53.
