September 17
Lots of changes but top 2 boys and girls teams stay the same; Great American
meet will get 12 of the top 20 teams
Notes by John Dye on the new rankings
Boys US - The Woodlands TX and Mountain View UT remain 1-2, and Poly Long Beach CA moved up from
7th to 3rd on sharp showings in early meets. These three will meet head-on this Saturday in Charlotte in the Great American Cross
Country Festival's top billed Race of Champions. Former #3 York Elmhurst IL and former #8 Robinson VA dropped out of the top 10 after
unexpected losses.
Sultana CA moved into the top 10.
Girls US - Rockford MI and San Lorenzo Valley CA remain 1-2.
Saratoga Springs NY moved up from 5th to 3rd; Campbell County WY moved up from 10th to
4th; Mountain View UT moved into the top 10 at 6th on its close second to Bingham UT, which dropped from 3rd to 5th.
Woodbridge CA dropped out of the top 10 after its poor showing at the Laguna Hills Invitational, and Corona del Mar CA took their place.
Great American - The second-year meet at Charlotte September 23 will have the greatest head-to-head team competition in the history of HS cross
country, with 5 of top 10 boys teams (1-2-3-5-7) and and 7 of top 10 girls teams
(2-3-4-5-6-9-10) running in the Race of Champions. The notable exception is Rockford MI (#1 girls, #4 boys),
which will miss the party because of state-imposed travel restrictions.
