Woodberry Forest Invitational

highlights from Mike Mangan

This is a challenging 5k course. Weather was perfect. 60's and partly sunny.

Boys race-Alan Webb 15:18. To my knowledge the course record was held by a guy from Fork Union Military Academy- Last name KEINO at 16:00.  Webb beat Kane from Louisa County by :55 seconds and made it look easy. Kane ran a strong last mile and a half to pull away from Jorge Ruiz (Harrisonburg) and Costello (Paul VI, Fairfax)  Quick Results: Webb 15:18 Kane 16:13 J. Ruiz 16:23 Costello 16:25 5th Vitto Lake Braddock 16;34

Boys Team score- Great three team duel. Lake Braddock led by Vitto and Jimmy Judge in 6th edged South Lakes and Albemarle 60-62-65.  South Lakes should be watched as Richard Smith (4:21/1:52 last spring) is quickly learning cross country.

Girls: Kelly Swain led from 400 meters on her way to a course record 19:07. Old record was held by Jennifer Owens(19:16)- NCAA All American at UVA from her high school days. Shiring from North Stafford ran alone in second for the runner up place in 19:35. Rounding out the top 5 were Whitenack(3rd) from Albermarle (19:55), Cheryl Carr(4th) Lake Braddock (20:15), and Mary Hogan (5th) Paul VI (20:16)

Girls Team Race-Lake Braddock scored a 63-90 over Louisa County. Lake Braddock ran without #2 Runner Sr. Heather McCarthy. North Stafford finished 3rd with 116. Lake Braddock was led by Swain, Carr and 10th place finisher Jenn Gordon.

Detailed Results
