Notes and Splitsfrom Bill Miller Track Nuts: Sorry for the delay in getting you the important relay splits at the boys Eastern States. Couldn't find the note paper I had put them on but finally retrieved it. The Cardinal O'Hara 4x8 splits were Sean Duffy 1:56.9, Bob Brown 1:58.8, Rich Anderson 1:57.5, and Pat Nash 1:54.3. It was only the second 4x8 they have run this season and a 7:47.5 on the battered Iona Prep track is really moving. Mike Brown who brought his Transit Tech to second place (in a non-shabby 7:49.0) had an anchor 800 split of 1:53.6 (after a second place 1:54.6 to Corey Thompson in the open 800). Brown has been running well this year and he could be a prospect for the 800 meters at the nationals. Damion Drummond is nowhere near his form of the indoor season. At the PSAL champs two weeks ago, he was leading in the 800 until the final turn when Mike Brown made his bid and cut Drummond off in moving to the inside off the turn which led to Brown's dq after he won. Drummond gave up after the cut off and was passed on the stretch for second place and ended with a third place finish of 1:55.58. Brown dqed in 1:53.9. About 90 minutes later, his bright coach ran Damion in the 1600 meters for some reason unknown to mankind except Horace Sutherland and Drummond responded accordingly by tying up badly over the final lap and finishing second in a magnificent 4:37.71. That should have helped his psyche no less his physical shape. Camden's splits in the 4x4 were Jeff Whittle 49.2, Dwight Ruff 48.3, Byron Oliver 50.8,Jade Smith 49.2 for a creditable time of 3:17.4 over the Iona Prep.Camden will do better at the nationals because their guys had run in the Jersey states only the night before. Mt. St. Michael had a 3:19.8 with Ron Hussey doing a sparkling 47.7 anchor split. Hussey really is looking better with each meet and deserves a nationals invitation for the 100 and 200 meters. Colonie came down from upstate strictly to run the 4x2 and get a qualifying time for the nationals. They did that on the slow track with a 1:28.9 with Brian Susser, Brett Thompson,Mike Gathen and J.J. Harvey. I understand Harvey's brother, who is quite a FB player as is JJ who is going to Syracuse on a FB scholarship, will be on the relay at the States this weekend so they should do better time in Liverpool. Carlos Bedoya was disappointed in his winning 200 time of 21.5 but there was no suitable competition to push him. He is running the 400 only at the States due to the time schedule which precludes the 200. Look for a 47 seconds or under time there. He does intend to run both the 200 and 400 at Raleigh (Jim Spier can confirm). He hopes to run against the "fast clocks" of the Texas contingent in the 400. If they show up, of course, without their favorite timers. I'll put a wrap on this long diatribe sprinkled with personal opinion (though certainly not in a league with John Rocker). Hope the info is useful to you all. |
