Here are highlights from the Alex Francis Relays, run 3/30/00 at Ft. Hays State University, Hays KS. Named after Alex Francis, who coached championship teams at Ft. Hays from the late 40's to early 80s.

Combined team scores: Hays 215, Hutchinson 205, Norton 108, Ness City 77, Quinter 75, Victoria 70, Hill City 63, Beloit St. John's 54, Lindsborg 53, Hays TMP 50, Southeast of Saline 48, Bennigton 31, Claflin 27, Kingman 15, Plainville 5

Boys Champ: Hutchinson 154 Girls Champ : Hays 95

Boys meet highlighted by Neil Philpott (Norton) with a national class triple win in the SP (57-8), DT (185-6), and JT (205-3), all three meet records, and winning by substantial margins. Richard Norwood (Hutchinson) won a triple in the 1600 (4:39.5), 800 (2:02.65) and 3200 (10:15.04), all also meet records. Sean Buford (Hutchinson) won the LJ (20-5.5) and TJ (43-10.25). Other meet records to Brandon Maska (Hays) 50.70 400, Lee Kowitz (Hutchinson) 40.90 300H.

Lindsay Eck (Beloit St. John's) dominated the girls side, winning the 100H (13.08), 300 H (45.92 meet record, won by almost 3 seconds) and LJ (18-3.25 meet record, winning by almost a foot and a half). Ness City took a 10:22.6 4 x 8 meet record, a good time for a school with under 100 students. Holly Fehrenbach (Ness City) took a good 26.8 (200), 60.5 (400) double and ran on the winning 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 teams. Victoria's Rachelle Geist won the JT (102-8), HJ (4-11) and was second in the DT (109-7)
