It was billed by meet director Jim Spier as the greatest HS boys
mile field in 15 years, but Alan Webb turned it into a time
trial.� There was a "pack" for only 100 meters before
Webb moved out on top and sprinted the first
quarter in 64.� If he weren't so talented, it would have looked
like a rabbit trying to steal the race.� But Webb is no rabbit
- he is a triple crown thoroughbred.� Webb got to the half in
2:05.9 and then ran faster.�� Stretching his lead steadily
to the end, Webb finished in 4:07.88.� He was clocked in 3:07.1
for three quarters and 3:52 for 1500 meters.
Mason Ward caught Millrose Games champ Tristan Colangelo for second by a split second in 4:13.20, and Noel Paulson was fourth in 4:14.21.� Colangelo led Gloucester MA to a new boys DMR record Friday night in New York at NSI and then flew to Indiana for this duel with Webb.��
