In both the 200m and 400m, trials are held and the fastest six advance. This makes for a tension-filled arena as the slightest distraction can mean the difference between moving on to the finals or a long trip home. 40 states were represented in Bloomington and in most of the events 5-6 states were represented. Such was the case in all four of these fields.
In the Boy's 200m, the final saw athletes from Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio and Arkansas with New Yorker Walter Thompson barely missing. BEN KITTELSON hails from the Bluegrass State and his 22.07 proved the fastest of the day.
When Sunday's final rolled around Kittelson lined up in Lane 6
with Tarheel CHRIS MARTIN one lane over and AARON LUSTER, Florida in Lane
4. At the gun Martin was cleanly away and quickly separated from the
fast-following field taking the gold. Kittelson seemed to tighten slightly
allowing Luster to slip past for the silver.
